Why Online Colleges Make It Easy to Switch Careers

If you find yourself in a career that you're no longer passionate about, it may be time for a change. At times the underlying cause of initiating a career change is more than a lack of zeal. Professionals may need a higher salary to match their cost of living. Increased costs of living may be the result of a new addition to the family, or it could also mean that there has been a decline in the industry the individual is currently working in.

Just as a case in point, a recent case study conducted by the United States Postal Service highlighted the continuing decline of U.S. Postal Jobs. How does someone who's worked in a career for over a decade make the move to protect their future from unemployment? The answer: getting certified in field with good potential for employment.

It may be hard to work full time and also study at a conventional campus due to time constraints. The good news is that professionals can now pursue a degree through online colleges. Many working adults currently study online, while still maintaining their jobs.

The National Center of Educational Statistics estimates that there are 12.2 million adults who have enrolled in distance education programs in the year 2008.

Numerous people find online colleges to be convenient because:
  • They offer flexibility
  • They offer a wide variety of degree options
  • They have qualified professors
  • They sometimes provide tuition assistance
Online colleges don't carry the same bias they once did. This postulation is supported by the percentage of individuals who have registered with online colleges, and also the employers who are willing to accept them. In another study conducted by the online education database, the percentage of individuals who study at an online college increases every year.

Some online colleges will even allow students to enroll at anytime of the year, so there is no wait time to begin. In addition, students may have the option to take on more courses in order to shorten the overall length of their program.

Career counselors have observed that people change careers at least three times during their lifetime. Some due to shifts in their life, some due to personal preferences.
Whatever ignites a change in career options, once anyone decides that a particular field is where they belong, an online college can be a viable first step to getting one's feet in the door of a brand new career.

Online Degree Programs - Are Online Degrees Harder Than Conventional Degrees?

By Jenny J Peterson

"Financial constraints as well as busyness are not enough reasons not to be able to get a degree."
Basically, when you talk about higher education you have two options laid before you. It would either be taken on a traditional way or you can get it the easy and fast way by means of online studies. Online degrees have a lot of advantages and one of which is that it is much cheaper compared to going to school in a traditional way.
Aside from being able to save a lot of money, one can also multi-task with online education. By getting a higher education online one can absolutely work and at the same time study. This is the very reason why many working people would opt for online education instead of a traditional education. However, so many people still doubt about getting an online education mainly because they do not necessarily know how to find a legit online school. Another is the fact that majority of the people still do not know about online education. Picture this out- if you are applying for a job and you showed the manager your resume with a diploma of a bachelor's degree from an online school, do you think he will choose you over the other applicants who have graduated from the local community college? It may be a fact that many people still do not know about online degrees however there are also people who are very much aware of getting an education online. Years ago degrees obtained online were considered as second-best to those being offered in traditional schools but nowadays it is at par with the conventional education.
Another best reason why you should invest in online education instead of obtaining it in a conventional way is that there is no such thing as popularity in the campus when it comes to online degrees. Remember the time when you were in high school when only the voices of the popular students are heard? Well, now in online degrees everyone can pipe up their thoughts. And there is no such thing as student bullying in this case. Shy students can now obtain their degrees without going through the daily torture of personally meeting unknown people from your classes. Of course, it doesn't mean that there is no communication between fellow students rather the daily communication will be online through chat, call or video calling. This is the great advantage of obtaining a degree in unconventional way.
Students from online classes have the opportunity to be taught by world class professors while regular colleges have limited chances of meeting and be taught by top notch professors. Even if you are living in California you can attend a Math class conducted by a professor from Japan or the Philippines simply because the internet cuts the long distance barrier enabling people to study virtually anywhere they want.
Needless to say obtaining a degree online is far better than getting it in a conventional way. But of course, the final decision is still yours. Try to weigh things and think real hard which of the two will fit your budget and your lifestyle.
